JOSÉ CÉSAR NAVA VAZQUEZ

José César Nava Vazquez began his political career in 1995 when he was elected leader of the PAN’s National Youth Action Secretariat (SNAJ) where he engaged in lively debates with youths of opposing parties. A former protégé of conservative politician Diego Fernández de Cevallos, Mr. César Nava has emerged as one of the key figures behind the ascendancy of Felipe Calderón Hinojosa to the Mexican presidency. He served as Federal Deputy in the LVIII Legislature where he was employed as assistant coordinator for the legislative process of the PAN’s bench. He left that post to serve as the PAN’s attorney before the Federal Electoral Institute (IFE). He was Legal Director for Mexico’s state-owned oil company Pemex as well as Legal Advisor to the Secretary of Energy while it was headed by Calderón. In 2005 he was appointed Deputy Secretary General of the PAN’s National Executive Committee where he assumed the role of spokesman for Calderón’s presidential campaign. Following the election, he was appointed Special Secretary to the President. In November 2008, he submitted his resignation to run as the PAN’s candidate for Federal Deputy. He was subsequently named coordinator of his party’s Strategic Planning Committee for the 2009 elections. In January he registered as the PAN candidate for Federal Deputy to represent the XV Federal Electoral District of the Federal District. A new generation PANista, he is a graduate of Mexico’s Pan American University and Harvard University.
