MARCOS VILLANUEVA CHANG
Writer, Journalist and University Professor
Mr. Villanueva Chang is the founding director of Etiqueta Negra, Latin America's premier literary and intellectual publication. He is a recipient of the Interamerican Press Association Award (IAPA) in feature writing. His profile, Through the Eyes of a Blind Major, was part of a South American special published by The Virginia Quarterly Review and co-edited by Etiqueta Negra which won the 2008 National Magazine Award for Single-topic Issue. He has published Mariposas y Murciélagos (Lima, UPC), a collection of his writings as principal journalist while at El Comercio de Lima. The Aragon Press Association and the Digital Journalism Congress of Spain published Un día con Julio Villanueva Chang, a workshop compilation of his experiences as editor. His latest book, Elogios Criminales, is an anthology of profiles published by Random House Mondadori, Mexico. His writings have also appeared in such notable papers as El País and La Vanguardia of Spain; La Nación and Página 12 from Argentina; Gatopardo and El Malpensante from Colombia; Reforma in Mexico; Vogue en español, World Literature Today and The Virginia Quarterly Review. Mr. Villanueva Chang has been a prolific speaker and educator, having dictated courses and conferences at Harvard, Yale, the University of Barcelona and Columbia University among other institutions.
