LUCÍA DAMMERT
Director of the Security and Citizenship Program, Flacso Chile
Lucía Dammert is currently a sociologist and doctoral candidate at Leiden University in the Netherlands. She has worked in academic institutions in the United States, Argentina, and currently as Director of the Security and Citizenship Program in FLACSO-Chile. Also, she is the Executive Director of the Global Consortium of Security Transformation. She has published articles and books about community participation, citizens security and urban studies in national and international journals. Among her latest books include “Perspectives and Dilemmas of Citizen Security in Latin America” (FLACSO Ecuador, 2007) and “Security and Violence: Challenges for the Citizenry” (FLACSO Chile, 2007). She has also participated in citizen security programs in various countries throughout the region, working as a consultant for the Ministries of the Interior in Argentina and Chile as well as the Secretary of Public Security in Mexico. Additionally, she has served as an expert consultant on citizen security for RED 14 for the European Commission’s URB-AL program.
Dammert received her B.A. in Sociology, Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina; and her M.A. in Urban and Regional Planning, Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, at the University of Pittsburg.
